Donington Park Race Report

Smiths Triumph win again at the ninth round of the Supersport Championship at Donington Park.

British Supersport Championship

Factory team Smiths Triumph scored heavily at the East Midlands circuit as Billy McConnell adds another win to his tally. Saturday’s sprint race saw McConnell take the chequered flag ahead of the championship leader and team mate Glen Richards who completed the podium positions. A red flag in Sunday’s feature race meant the race was stopped on lap 14 with McConnell in third position and Richards on his tail in fourth.

McConnell maintains his third place in the championship standings with 269 points. Richards lies in seventh with 140 points.

Oxford TAG Triumph’s race one saw Richard Cooper and Scott Smart both score championship points with Cooper crossing the line in sixth and Smart thirteenth. A first lap crash in race two for Cooper meant Smart scored the teams only points finishing seventh. Cooper and Smart are now in eighth and eleventh in the championship standings respectively.

Rob Guiver of T3 Racing had his Supersport Cup lead cut to only 36 points after scoring just thirteen points across the weekend. Guiver placed fourth in race one but failed to finish Sunday’s feature race.

Luke Stapleford (Profile Racing) added further points to his championship tally after bringing his 2012 Daytona 675R across the line in twelfth and tenth between race one and two respectively. His additional ten points means he moves into fourteenth in the championship standings with 3 rounds remaining.

National Superstock 600

A third place finish for Team Haribo Starmix still wasn’t enough to prevent Joe Collier slipping into fifth in the Superstock championship standings. An additional 16 points were added to Colliers total but a win and second place from Callan Cooper and Luke Hedge leaves Collier in fifth with two rounds remaining.

Triumph Triple Challenge

Cup rider Luke Shelley shocked the Triple Challenge fans with a surprise win in race one at Donington Park. Shelley’s first win of the season propelled him into sixth in the Cup standings (ninth overall). Championship leader Chrissy Rouse narrowly missed out on a podium finish in Saturday’s sprint race but made up ground in race two finishing just behind race winner Freddy Pett. Rouse remains in the top spot in the championship standings with Pett in second and Atkinson completing the top three.

In the Cup standings Fuller leads King and Pitchers with two rounds remaining.
